LVL UP 6×02 – Capitulo 2
We continue to navigate in our own narrative universe from Level Up and as often happens as the creature grows, we must adapt to new needs and evolve. We are going to have the pleasure of having new collaborators from the academic and professional universe. We want to give voice and listen to the opinion of the new generation of game devs and at the same time contrast all visions with the most seasoned survivors in the industry. As we are still “newbies” in the podcast sphere, it is possible that this second season may remind you of a gymkhana and honestly, nothing could be further from the truth, for the moment we plan to continue recording more episodes about design until we have at least completed a set of topics and guests that make us feel proud of the pedagogical content we offer you. In the meantime, make yourself comfortable and enjoy the journey… We venture into a very special discipline within video game development, narrative design, In a nutshell, narrative design is the use of story to make sense of the game in a video game. Like a novelist, the narrative designer focuses on elements such as structure, character, and setting, but the key difference is that the hero of the story is the player and their experience is interactive. Concepts such as the background, the script, the dialogue, the choice, the ramifications, the timeline, the arc of transformation of the characters, the narrative tension vs the player’s flow and especially the intersection between the game mechanics and the story that each video game tells us are the breeding ground of today’s episode.
